Changes to Honours in 2013

From 2013 honours becomes a one-year postgraduate degree, instead of an (extended) four-year undergraduate degree.

At the same time, the structure of honours in Information Science changes to a total of 120 points, which consist of a year-long dissertation (INFO490, 40 points), and four semester-long 20 point papers.  Previously honours consisted of four year-long papers (36 points each paper adding to 144 points).

From 2013 all INFO level 4 papers will become 1 semester long, with the exception of INFO401 and INFO403, which will remain full-year by adding a ‘part 2’: INFO401 (recoded to SENG401) can be followed by INFO409 “Information Science Project” and INFO403 (renamed “Information Assurance”) can be followed by INFO413 “Information Assurance Audit”.

Changes to minor requirements in 2012

From 2012 the requirements for a minor in Information Science changed to allow more flexibility for students interested in Information Science but not wanting to include a programming component in their Minor.

The new requirements (in bold) for Information Science as a minor subject for a BA, BTheol, BSc, BAppSc or BCom degree:

• 100-level: BSNS 106, and any 100-level COMP paper
• 200-level: Two 200-level INFO papers (excluding INFO 231 and INFO 232)
• 300-level: One 300-level INFO paper or SENG 301 or TELE 303

Changes to major requirements in 2012

 There are some changes (in bold) to the major requirements, taking effect from 2012, for Information Science as a major subject for a BA, BSc, or BCom degree:

• 100-level: BSNS 106 and COMP 150 or COMP 160
• 200-level: INFO 211, INFO 213, INFO 214, INFO 221
• 300-level: INFO 312, any two of INFO 321-324, one further paper drawn from 300-level INFO papers, SENG 301 or TELE 303

Note that two new papers will be introduced in 2013: INFO 322 (IS Strategy and Governance, prereqs: BSNS106 and 36 points of 200-level papers, not necessarily INFO) and INFO 324 (Adaptive Business Intelligence, prereqs: BSNS106, one 200-level INFO paper, and 18 further points [not necessarily INFO] at 200-level or above). 

Prereqs for 300-level papers in 2013

 The following 300-level papers have had their prerequisites changed:
