Dr. Jeremiah Deng is interested in intelligent algorithms for pattern recognition, machine learning, system optimization, and their application in areas such as bio- and health informatics, networking, and image retrieval. His recent work investigates online learning algorithms, scene categorization, medical and biological image retrieval, and chaotic associative memory modeling.

Dr. Deng teaches a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses such as machine learning and data mining, network modeling and design, and wireless communications. He also supports ongoing curriculum development in the Telecommunications Programme. Dr. Deng is a member of IEEE, and serves as an active reviewer for a number of international conferences (AI, IVCNZ etc.) and journals (TNN, TM, TKDE, PR, TSMC, IS etc.).

If you interested in the following research topics (could be either Masters or PhD), send me a line:

  • Visual localisation through buildings/landmark recognition
  • Tell-a-book-by-its-cover (but no need for Goggle)
  • Semantics extraction from images and video (categorization, summarization, & retrieval)
  • Distributed data mining and applications (e.g., anomaly detection)
  • Machine learning techniques for signal processing (EEG, image, audio etc.)
