Online Flags Design

Dr Aldridge is collaborating with Dr Peter Whigham and Dr Michel de Lange in developing and evaluating an on-line evolutionary method for large-scale participatory design of constrained images. The approach is being trialled by using the New Zealand online community to evolve a set of candidate NZ flag designs. The website for this trial was officially launched on 4 November 2009 by Pete Hodgson, MP, a former Minister of Science and Technology. The event is reported in an Otago Daily Times article. See also a University of Otago press release and a supplementary press release, giving additional background.
